More than 13.4 million leaked files show the offshore activities of the most powerful people and companies on the planet, and how they protect their wealth.
The files, which came from offshore law firms and company registries have been investigated by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists after they were obtained by the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung.
The headline for The Independent was “Queen's cash invested in controversial retailer accused of exploiting the poor.”
This is a use of sensational grammar, the queen is being portrayed in an unsympathetic manner.
The phrase “exploiting the poor” creates a negative manipulative image of the queen as she is associating herself with a controversial retailer. As “Queen's cash” is written it can be seen that the queen was more directly responsible for the incident herself, and may be guilty.
In this front page there is no direct mention of how much cash was invested, this can increase the blame on the queen as it is subject to the imagination of the readers.
The incident wasn't the headline for the Daily Mail the title was “Queen dragged into 10 million offshore tax row.”
This is a another use of sensational words, the word ‘dragged’ portrays the queen in a sympathetic manner and implies that she wasn't solely responsible for the incident. On this front page the amount of money mentioned, as 10 million. The blame is lowered as on the right of the picture an image of13 year old girl worth 5 million is shown, this somewhat plays down the intensity of the incident, and shows that 10 million pounds isn't actually that much considering it is the queen.
The guardian has focused on Lewis Hamilton, by dedicating an article to his use of the Isle of man scheme to save money on his 16.5 million jet. In the article, the guardian highlights the price of his jet, which was 16.5 million ounds, in order to emphasise the sheer scale of
